I used to get little shell pieces in my eggs all the time, especially when I was rushing through breakfast. This makes the crack much easier to control and keeps the mess down. I've used it on quite a few eggs now and it's become one of those small kitchen tools I actually keep within reach.

Took me a couple of tries to get the hang of it, but after that it worked well. I mainly use it with raw eggs and the crack is much more controlled than hitting them on the counter.
